AI Policy
Last updated: 26 September 2026
Scriptorium Labs develops stories and intellectual property in a rapidly evolving creative and technological environment. We believe artificial intelligence can be a valuable tool within that process while human creative authorship, judgement and responsibility remain central to the work we develop.
This public policy sets out the principles that guide our approach. Our specific tools and working practices may evolve as technology, law, industry practice and the needs of individual projects change.
Human creative authorship
Scriptorium Labs distinguishes between human creative authorship and AI non-authorship assistance.
We believe the creative authorship of our stories and intellectual property should remain human-led. Human creators are responsible for the creative choices that shape the work, including its story, characters, world, themes and expression.
AI may assist the creative process, but it does not replace the human creative responsibility at the centre of our work.
AI non-authorship assistance
We may use AI and other computational tools to assist with activities such as research, analysis, assessment, criticism, comparison, organisation, development support, continuity and logic checking, fact-checking, transcription, technical tasks and administrative workflows.
These tools may help us understand material, identify issues, explore possibilities, manage information and make our development processes more efficient.
The particular tools and methods used may vary between projects and may change over time.
Third-party material
Scriptorium Labs may work with scripts, manuscripts, concepts and other material supplied by writers, producers, collaborators, rights holders or other third parties.
When determining how AI tools may be used with third-party material, we consider the nature of the material and any applicable confidentiality, intellectual property, contractual and data-handling requirements.
We do not treat the use of AI as overriding the rights of creators or the obligations that apply to material entrusted to us.
Project-specific requirements
Different projects, partners and agreements may establish additional or different requirements concerning the use of AI.
Where project-specific contractual or agreed requirements apply, our use of AI for that project will be governed by those requirements.
This allows our working practices to respond appropriately to the circumstances of individual projects while maintaining the principles set out in this policy.
Human judgement and responsibility
AI-generated analysis or assistance is not treated as a substitute for professional or creative judgement.
Decisions concerning the development, assessment, selection or progression of creative work remain subject to human judgement and responsibility.
Intellectual property
Scriptorium Labs respects intellectual property rights and recognises that the legal and industry frameworks surrounding artificial intelligence continue to develop.
We seek to use AI in ways that are consistent with the rights and obligations applicable to the material with which we are working.
An evolving approach
Artificial intelligence, the law governing it, and creative-industry practices are continuing to evolve. Scriptorium Labs therefore reviews its approach to AI periodically and may update its practices and this policy as circumstances change.
The current version of this policy will be published on this website with its latest update date.
